Dundo - The government of the eastern Lunda-Norte province has said it will terminate in 2025, contracts with companies that demonstrate technical and financial incapacity in carrying out public works, especially those included in the Integrated Municipal Intervention Plan (PIIM).
Of the 108 projects included in the PIIM, only 49 have been completed, 37 are currently paralyzed and 22 are in progress.
The overall value of the PIIM in Lunda-Norte province is estimated at 18.3 billion Kwanzas.
Speaking at a meeting with local businesspeople, the local governor, Filomena Miza, announced that in the next few days all the contractors involved in the PIIM works will be summoned to assess the contracts and the levels of physical and financial execution of the paralyzed projects.
The governor reiterated that the companies that have lost the capacity to continue carrying out the work in order to be paid later will have their contracts cancelled to allow new contracting processes and guarantee the completion of the projects that have been paralyzed.
‘Companies linked to the construction sector must be financially robust so that they don't depend exclusively on the government for the normal execution of a project and it is these companies that we want to count on,’ the governor said.
Filomena Miza promised to work with the relevant bodies to gradually pay off the government's debts to entrepreneurs, whenever financial resources become available.
"We're going to advise municipal administrations to review their debts to businesspeople, which in many cases are small and are only not paid due to a lack of sensitivity on the part of the manager," Miza said. HD/TED/AMP
