Benguela – The provincial vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sectors of Benguela, Lídia Amaro, reiterated, on Tuesday, the Government's commitment to support people with albinism, to promote the well-being of this social fringe.
The minister was speaking about a lecture on the theme 'Ocular and dermatological changes in people with albinism', alluding to June 13, International Albinism Awareness Day.
Lidia Amaro said that the Provincial Health Office has been providing medical and drug assistance to albinos, as part of public policies for social inclusion, protection and support of people in this condition.
The vice-governor points out the availability of various dermatological products or creams for skin protection and glasses for vision problems to people with albinism.
'It is the Government's premise to support this fringe of society on a regular basis, through the Provincial Health Office,' he said.
Skin and vision cancers are the most recurrent health problems of albinos, especially from disadvantaged families in the province of Benguela and in the country in general.
In the face of this, many complain of discrimination in access to the labor market and medical care in ophthalmology, in addition to the price of medicines and skin protection products.
They therefore welcome the International Day on Albinism as an opportunity to raise awareness of the State not to leave behind persons with albinism, but rather to promote the social well-being of its citizens.
The meeting was promoted by the Benguela Ophthalmological Center. JH/CRB/DOJ
