Huambo - The Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Manuel Carlos, promised on Saturday in Huambo to step up efforts to combat acts of vandalism of electricity infrastructure, in order to boost social and economic development programs.
The official made the statement following the recent vandalizing of three 400-kilowatt towers on the transmission line, which ensure the distribution of electricity in the Huambo/Bié and Lauca/Capanda segments.
Arlindo Carlos said the sabotage of electricity equipment and infrastructures that took place three days ago has been overcome by a technical maintenance service, which prevented the interruption of supply in several localities in the country.
The official added that the government will not condone acts of sabotage and vandalism of electricity infrastructures, so as to protect the interests of the majority, at a time when projects to expand clean and renewable energies are being implemented in the country, in line with international standards.
The Secretary of State for Energy visited the municipalities of Bailundo, Ecunha and Huambo, where he assessed the electricity infrastructure projects for the expansion of the distribution and supply network. LT/ALH/AMP
