Luanda - The Angola government is conducting a study aimed at drawing up a scheme to subsidize medicines for the treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases, the Secretary of State for Public Health Carlos Pinto de Sousa said Tuesday.
Speaking to the press after the 5th Ordinary Meeting of the Commission for Social Policy of the Council of Ministers, Carlos Pinto said a study is being conducted to number the diseases and the patients’ financial burden.
The official explained that the study includes the definition of the pricing system and a financial model sustained for the benefit of families, especially those most in need.
The Secretary of State said the subsidizing package covers diseases such as , diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, sickle cell anemia and mental illnesses, since treatment is continuous.
The meeting also analyzed a draft Presidential Decree that establishes the rules and procedures for licensing pharmaceutical activity, with the aim to speed up the procedure for issuing authorization to carry out this activity, promote free enterprise and entrepreneurship in the sector and improve the country's business environment.
