Huambo - The winner of the national phase of the 2022 edition of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) secondary school essay competition, Casimira Pimenta, will benefit from a scholarship awarded by the Huambo provincial government.
The announcement was made this Tuesday by the governor of Huambo Province, Lotti Nolika, during the tribute to the student winner of the competition, which included the participation of 33 essays, representing the 18 provinces of Angola.
Casimira Pimenta, 19, is in the first year of a Law degree course at the Sol Nascente Polytechnic Higher Institute in Huambo.
The Jiu-Jitsu athlete, who won, in 2022, the third place of the World Championship, in the 63 kg category, held in Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and judoka Edmira Segunda, winner and at the same time, who was second place in individually category of the SADC region V games, were also honoured.
At the time, Lotti Nolika said that the government of Huambo would do all it could to cover the fees of the winner of the SADC essay competition until she finished her university education.
The governor also announced the reactivation of the scholarship for the judo athlete, recently awarded by the Huambo municipal administration, who was attending high school in a private institution. She also promised to support the jiu-jitsu athlete, who finished high school in 2018.
Lotti Nolika said that the intention comes from the fact that they raised the image of the country, particularly the province of Huambo.
“It´s a great blessing for the province, as it is examples like these that other young people should follow”, said the governor, who encouraged the honoured women to continue with their actions.
She reaffirmed the continuous support of the government of Huambo Province to all those who dedicate themselves in various areas of social life, in order to continue raising the region´s image.
Casimira Pimenta was declared the winner after writing the best essay from amongst the 33 competitors in the recent edition, which took place under the theme, “How SADC can increase productive capacity in the face of Covid-19”.
Due to her success, the former 12th grade student of the Liceu Comandante Kapango, where she finished secondary education last school year 2022, together with Irina Sardinha, of the Instituto Médio Comercial de Luanda (High School), who placed second in the national phase of the SADC competition and Ecliseaste Ricardo, of the Instituto Politécnico de Benguela (Polytechnic Institute), third place in the national phase of the SADC competition, represented the country in the regional competition in which Irina Sardinha, obtained 10th place.
