Dundo - The governor of Lunda-Norte, Filomena Miza, today called on the population to collaborate in preventing damage from the rains, avoiding construction in risk zones, in order to safeguard their lives.
During the last rainy season, the Civil Protection Service and the Fire Brigade destroyed 115 homes, three schools, a health centre, nine churches, a bridge and three police stations.
The destruction of homes left 3,40 people in a state of vulnerability.
According to SPCB figures presented at the ordinary meeting of the Provincial Civil Protection Commission, 23 people died as a result of the rains.
However, about the current rainy season, Filomena Miza convened the Civil Protection Commission to streamline the body's action strategy, with an emphasis on campaigns to raise awareness among the population about the need to reinforce preventive measures.
According to the governor, as this is a natural phenomenon, it is necessary for the population to collaborate with the authorities, abandoning risk zones so that deaths and the destruction of homes do not occur again.
During the meeting, the proposal for the creation of the Operational Coordination Centre (CCO), the contingency plan for the 2023/2027 four-year period and the report on the last rainy season were analysed and approved. QB/HD/DAN/DOJ
