Huambo - The governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, on Tuesday highlighted the need for more involvement of communities in the fight against illegal immigration and in the strengthening of public security, to annul anti-social acts.
The governor was speaking at the first ordinary session of the Provincial Council for Community Surveillance, held in the auditorium of the local government, which included municipal administrators, representatives of the Defence, Security and Internal Order bodies, religious entities, traditional authorities, community agents and heads of residents' committees.
On the occasion, Pereira Alfredo said that illegal immigration, an apparently normal phenomenon, is gaining ground, as a 'very serious' act, whose fight must involve the entire community in the identification of people who enter the neighborhoods, especially foreigners without regularized migratory status.
He considered it essential to denounce these illegal cases, with the involvement of local leaders, traditional authorities and the population residing in any region of the province of Huambo, to stop this phenomenon in a timely manner, with a focus on maintaining social order.
Pereira Alfredo justified that the Community Surveillance Council aimed, fundamentally, to share information and define strategic plans for public assurance, so that peace is effective in any region of Huambo and the population participates in social maintenance.
He said that this mechanism allows representatives of communities and other entities to participate in the protection of public assets, which covers all the heritage of the existing territory in this region of the Central Plateau.
With this vision, he explained, it is intended to engage the population more in assurance actions, by denouncing all those who attack public property, social peace in communities and, at the same time, strengthening the ties of cooperation between the State and local communities.
The governor promised to be ruthless in cases of vandalization of public property, with the civil and criminal liability of all its perpetrators
To this end, he suggested the creation of the figure of the community caretaker to care for and control public property, as well as to instill in the population a sense of belonging, so that all living forces are involved in its protection.
The ordinary sessions of the Community Surveillance Council will be comprehensive in the 11 municipalities of the province of Huambo, to achieve satisfactory results and the permanent social maintenance of the communities.
According to forecasts by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for 2024, the province of Huambo has an estimated population of two million, 830 thousand 415 inhabitants, distributed by the municipalities of Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Huambo, Londuimbali, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.
