Sumbe - The provincial governor of Cuanza Sul, Job Pedro Capapinha, interacted on Friday with the Bishop of the Diocese of Sumbe, Dom Firmino David, about governmental actions and the activities of the Catholic church in the region.
On the occasion, Job Capapinha said that the Catholic Church has an important role in moralizing society, which is why it is a partner that can greatly help the government to improve the conditions of the population, especially with charitable actions.
He highlighted that the Diocese of Sumbe will celebrate its 50th anniversary, “so they will work to fit this moment into the program of local celebrations next year.
For his part, the Bishop of the Diocese of Sumbe, Firmino David, highlighted that "I had been waiting for some time for a visit from the governor, Job Capapinha, and this shows that we are living in unity”.
“This visit also marks a new page for the Bishopric of Sumbe in terms of good relations between the church and the provincial government”, he highlighted.
He also said that relations between the church and the government are good, but that cooperation needs to be strengthened.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Sumbe was rector of the Theology Seminary in Huambo, ordained Bishop of Sumbe on July 23, 2023 and took office
on August 20, 2023.
