Luanda - The provincial governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, on Sunday recognised the role of the Church as decisive in rescuing the moral and civic values of society and preserving public heritage.
The governor took part in the Pentecost Sunday celebration ceremony at the New Apostolic Church, located in the Palanca II neighbourhood, Kilamba Kiaxi municipality, in Luanda.
‘The church, due to its central role of defending the values of good and peace, can be a partner for the actions that the Luanda Provincial Government is developing in the social sector,’ he said.
Manuel Homem cited, by way of example, the actions under the programmes for the redevelopment of commerce, traffic and afforestation, among others.
The governor of Luanda praised the messages given during the celebration by the apostle and administrator of the New Apostolic Church, João Mafu.
‘It was a time of spiritual restoration and we will certainly leave here more capable of continuing to face the challenges we have for our province,’ he said.
The event was attended by the director of the Provincial Office for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Tatiana Mbuta, and the municipal administrator of Kilamba Kiaxi, Naulila André.
According to apostle João Mafu, the faithful of the New Apostolic Church have been holding meetings on Wednesdays, where messages are given about street vending and rubbish production.
‘Citizens on earth should be guided by decent behaviour and preserve the environment. On Wednesdays, we have meetings with the mums of the church to advise them about street vending,’ she said.
The feast of Pentecost, which celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles of Jesus Christ, was also marked by the vaccination of around 200 children as part of the national campaign against polio for children under five. AB/OHA/DAN/DOJ
