Talatona - The Governor of Luanda province, Manuel Homem, defended Friday the development of more social actions aimed at the restructuring and social cohesion of families as the basic nucleus of society, in terms of reserving the formation of the individual's personality.

Speaking at the opening of the 25th Provincial Council of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and the Promotion of Women, the governor emphasized that when a family has no structural basis, it creates a society with citizens who contribute nothing to development and social cohesion.

To counteract this, according to the governor, programs must continue to be developed in health, education, food assistance for families in situations of vulnerability, calamity, disaster, as well as raising awareness about prevention and domestic violence, child protection and other important affections so that they can be structured.

The governor expressed his confidence that the Council will be able to gather proposals and suggestions for evaluating and realigning public policies aimed at family harmony and cohesion.

"We are all called to assume our true role with responsibility as members of a family, giving the best of ourselves so that we can have a healthy society, without discrimination, without violence, where each member takes care and helps each other," Homen said.

The director of the Social Action Office, Olga Tchiaca, pointed out that the Council aims to reflect on the problems faced by families in Luanda province, collect subsidies, realign policies in favor of family welfare for discussion at the National Council on May 15.

Tchiaca said that the sector's main challenges are the flight from parenthood and family breakdown, issues that have merited the ministry's work to raise awareness of family reunification and cohesion.

The 25th Provincial Family Council, which is taking place under the slogan "Investing in Families and Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" at the National Archives, is promoting the revival of citizens' moral, civic, ethical, cultural and patriotic values.
