Luanda – The Lwini Foundation on Thursday in Luanda Province, received fifty wheelchairs to help people with physical disabilities from the Turkish embassy in Angola, as part of Türkiye's centenary celebrations, celebrated on October 29, 2023.
The offered chairs will be given to people with disabilities according to the requests registered in the Lwini Foundation's database.
At the reception of the chairs, the Turkish ambassador to Angola, Ufuk Ekici, hoped that the chairs would minimise the difficulties faced by people with physical disabilities.
The ambassador said that Angola and Türkiye have a good political and economic partnership that should last for a long time.
He said that this is the second time that they have handed over mobility aids and compensation to the Lwini Foundation, which will ensure that they reach the people in need, adding that this act of solidarity gives them a feeling of happiness, emphasizing that the handing over of the means shows the friendship and solidarity that exists between the two countries.
The funds were financed by the Turkish association International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL), a non-governmental organisation that works in the field of accessibility and other social projects.
On the occasion, the Executive Director of the Lwini Foundation, Alfredo Ferreira, recalled that the partnership is around 10 years and began with the supply of health equipment, particularly for pediatrics, as part of the "little hearts" project.
He said that for this year, the Lwini Foundation and the Turkish Embassy have planned two projects in the fields of prosthetic rehabilitation and education, particularly special education.
Established on 30 June 1998, the Lwini Foundation is a charitable institution that aims to help civilian victims of landmines. EVC/OHA/MRA/DOJ
