Luanda – The Óscar Ribas House-Museum on Thursday in Luanda held the second edition of “Expo-Ribas2023”, with the exhibition of plastic arts, craftsworks, book fair and theatre, in the ambit of one more anniversary of its patron, the late writer Óscar Ribas.
With the theme “”Memories Tourism”, this edition happens in the ambit of the celebrations of the 114th birthday of the referred Angolan writer, ethnologist and essayist.
The exhibition aims at paying homage to one of the main sources (recorder) of the country’s oral tradition, through the provision of important information on the life, work and legacy of this Angolan intellectual.
Speaking to the press, the director of the Óscar Ribas House-Museum (located in Luanda city), Sidónio Domingos described the exhibition as a key-project of the institution that has the goal to bring about new dynamics and attract public to the space.
He said the institution has a library with a multi-disciplinary bibliography, as well as a small gallery for the promotion of plastic arts, a space for poetry events and launching of books.
Óscar Ribas, the intellectual
Angolan writer, poet, journalist and essayist, he was born on 17 August 1909, in Luanda city, and passed away on 19 June 2004 in Cascais, Portugal.
Deemed one of the founders of Angola’s literary fiction, the ethnologist left a valuable literary asset, having retrieved (published) many aspects of the Angolan oral tradition, traditional religion and philosophy, mainly of the region of Luanda and outskirts.
His first book, entitled "Nuvens que Passam”, was published in the year 1927. After that many other works followed.
One of his reference works is the three-volume book “Missosso”, which is a collection of sayings/adages of the Ambundo people, published in 1961, 1962 and 1964.
He also released a dictionary of Angolan regional expressions, among other relevant works.
