Lubango – Over 490,000 direct jobs in various sectors of the economy, out of 500,000 jobs foreseen by the Government, have been generated in the last five years in the country, said Wednesday in Lubango Municipality, the minister of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security (MAPTSS), Teresa Rodrigues Dias.
The minister, who was speaking at the opening of the MAPTSS Consultative Council, held in the southern Huila Province, said that the figure corresponds to a 98% execution.
She pointed out that in the economy domain, the sectors that employed the most were trade and industry, while in public administration, health and education stand out.
Despite the encouraging numbers, the minister stated, in the past five-years 271,562 citizens lost their jobs, with greater emphasis on the years 2019 and 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The official highlighted that the government also managed to preserve about 219,206 jobs, adding that employability is already picking up.
Regarding the expansion of vocational training centres, the government official said that 11 have been built, one more than expected, namely in the provinces of Lunda Sul, Bié, Namibe, Uíge, Huambo, Huíla, Cabinda, Malanje, Zaire, Luanda and Moxico.
As regards the Employability Promotion Plan (PAPE), Teresa Rodrigues Dias highlighted the distribution of 21,243 work kits, out of the 37,000 foreseen, plus the granting of 11,597 micro-credits to young entrepreneurs.
On his turn, the provincial governor of Huíla, Nuno Muhapi, emphasized that MAPTSS has an important role by guiding the employability policy and work conditions, linked with other departments by adjusting the economic, finance and social needs imposed by the context.
The MAPTSS Consultative Council takes place under the motto “Assessment of the results and goals of the sector, 2018-2022”
and is analyzing the Reform Programme of the Public Administration (PREA), Action Plan for the Promotion of Employability (PAPE), Programme for the Requalification of Employment Centres and Services (PREMCSE).
Other topics to be addressed during the Consultative Council are The Integrated Data Management System of Companies and Professions In Angola (SIGEPA), the national minimum wage and its impact on the General State Budget (OGE) and the sector´s perspectives for 2023-2027.
