Benguela – At least 180 computer engineers are participating, since Monday, in Benguela Province, in a training programme to guarantee the technological component during the 2024 General Population and Housing Census.
The trainees come from the country's 18 provinces and, for seven days, will have theoretical and practical classes to ensure the success of the Census.
According to Patrícia Aline, from the National Statistics Institute (INE), who spoke to ANGOP, during the training programme the participants will receive general notions on the Census, Administration and Finance, Equipment and accessories for data collection and Provision of tablets that will be used in the acquisition of data.
In turn, the provincial director of INE, José Maria, stated that Benguela has everything ready to start the process.
He said that in the province approximately 8,000 people will be involved, who will be distributed by the provincial, municipal and communal commissions, including computer technicians, census takers and drivers.
As deputy coordinator of the Provincial Commission to Support the 2024 Census, the vice-governor for the Technical and Infrastructure area, Adilson Gonçalves, who opened the course, drew the attention of the participants, stating that this was a "State mission".
"We’ll provide all the necessary support so that the process runs as smoothly as possible", he assured.
Asked about the existence of possible areas that are still inaccessible, since the process begins on the 19th of July, Adilson Goncalves pointed to the municipality of Chongoroi, specifically the localities of Lurobiri and Malongo, considered to be of concern.
To overcome this constraint, he said that the government has been supported by the National Air Force, through helicopters, to reach the aforementioned areas.
"In the municipalities of Ganda and Bocoio, which are the last, we are in the phase of reconfirming some locations. Access is already assured by land for the purpose of confirming data using the cartographic map", he explained.
The vice-governor recalled, however, that this process is not intended only for the General Population Census.
"It also includes Housing because it is through it that we’ll know the volume of water that we have to allocate to a given location, define the necessary energy capacity, among other issues", he clarified.
He appealed to young people, stating that they are the "key part of the process" and, therefore, must work with the utmost responsibility.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, the population census is carried out every ten years. The last one was made in 2014.
