Luanda - The Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Maria Cândida Teixeira, Saturday stressed the efforts of the Angolan government in the creation of institutions aimed at protecting children's rights.
The diplomat, who was speaking at the commemorative act of the African Children's Day (16 June), held at the Angolan House of Culture in Havana, highlighted the creation of the law on the protection and integral development of children and the 11 commitments that guarantee equal rights and opportunities to each one of them.
She said that the protection is envisaged in the African Charter, which provides for the right to education, health, participation in cultural life, among others.
Maria Cândida Teixeira said that the date draws attention to the reality of thousands of African children who every day are victims of violence, exploitation and abuse.
"The 16th of June of each year is commemorated with the objectives of promoting a reflection on the protection and development of children in the context of the implementation of their rights, as established in national and international instruments," said the diplomat.
The commemorative act was filled with several cultural moments with emphasis on folk and modern dances, fashion show of African costumes and tasting of typical Angolan dishes.
The event was attended by ambassadors accredited in Cuba, Cuban authorities, employees of the Angolan diplomatic mission and children.
