Mbanza Kongo - Vince and five citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who were involved in the illegal felling of trees in the northern Zaire Province, were detained on Monday by the Border Guard Police.
The arrest of these illegal immigrants, three of whom were women, took place in the forests of Tudilua, Mpala and Luvo, in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo.
According to the spokesperson for the National Police in Zaire, intendant Luís Bernardo, they carried out, a few days ago, in some border areas with the DRC, an operation called “Broom” which aims to combat illegal immigration, fuel smuggling and the flora.
He reported that during the operation 50 wooden pieces, 15 bags of coal, six machetes, a homemade firearm and 1,800 liters of diesel oil were seized.
However, the detainees will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office for procedural process.
