Lubango – At least three men aged 33, 52 and 54, one of them a sub-lieutenant in the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) were arrested Wednesday by the National Police in possession of fake 1.2 million US dollars in Lubango city, Huila province.
The suspects are a 54-year old FAA officer, an accountant of a private company, aged 33, and a 52 unemployed man.
According to the head of local Criminal Investigation Service, sub-inspector Alfredo Quelson Chissanda the arrest was made possible after an anonymous tip-off that a suitcase containing counterfeit money was in circulation in Lubango, leading to an investigation and consequent arrest of the perpetrators.
The police chief added that an investigation team is currently seeking to identify and locate alleged bank employees involved in the scheme to inject fake notes in the market. EM/MS/AMP
