Luanda - The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) is implementing the Platform of Action and the Beijing Declaration as guiding documents for member states actions.
The CPLP Declaration on the priority theme, "Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital era to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls," was delivered Monday in New York by the Angolan minister of Social Action, Family and Woman Promotion, Ana do Sacramento Neto.
According to a press release, the minister was speaking during the inaugural plenary session of the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, being held from March 6 to 17 at the UN headquarters, in New York.
On the occasion, Ana Neto highlighted that the implementation of the Platform of Action and the Beijing Declaration has allowed the adoption of a vast set of recommendations aimed at eliminating obstacles to the full and effective participation of women in all spheres and at all levels of public and private life.
The minister assured that the CPLP is committed to securing equal opportunities in decision-making processes in political, economic, social and cultural issues to guarantee their empowerment.
He noted that the CPLP has been a privileged stage for sharing experiences and joint efforts around common struggles, especially for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
"Since assuming the pro tempore presidency of the CPLP at the Thirteenth Conference of Heads of State and Government in July 2021, Angola has defined as one of its priorities the continued need for the full implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the across the board character of the gender equality issue throughout the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development", the minister clarified.
According to Ana Neto, the community recognises that the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflicts that still affect some member states and the economic crises have worsened the inequalities caused by the digital divides, as the poorest and most vulnerable, who are the hardest hit, lag behind in access to information and communication technologies.
The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries regrets the conflict situation that is still being felt in some member states whose consequences affect mostly women and girls, and commits itself to making efforts towards the implementation of Resolution 1325, Women Peace and Security to reduce the negative impacts.
