Benguela - Around 25 thousand Catholic faithful from Angola and Mozambique are expected, in the province of Benguela, to attend the Promaica's 1st National Congress, from 22 to 25 August, ANGOP learned.
For four days, members of the Promotion of Women movement in the Angolan Catholic Church (Promaica) and guests will address various topics, with emphasis on future action strategies and updating statutes.
According to Promaica's national manager, Julieta Araújo, throughout its existence (34 years), this women's association of the Catholic Church has fought for the integral promotion of women in all sectors of life.
Julieta Araújo informed that Promaica's mission is to help women become critically and creatively aware and encourage responsible participation in evangelizing, cultural, social and political processes.
In addition to outlining strategies that will guide Promaica's destinies in the near future, the congress will pay tribute to Dom Óscar Braga, founder of the aforementioned movement, who passed away back in 2020.
For Julieta Araújo, since its creation, Promaica has helped transform the lives of several women, through academic and professional training, a fact that has allowed them to enter the job market.
"Promaica has contributed not only to the transformation of women, but also of society, especially in the recovery of moral values", she emphasized.
Asked about the several phenomena that afflict society, such as alcoholism, family breakdown, prostitution, she considered these to be cases that should be studied.
She said that, "Promaica has played its role in moralizing society, by holding lectures and raising awareness about the need to review conduct to build a better society".
In her view, this moralization must be done through a process that follows stages.
"Holding the congress is one of the steps, because for a few days the participants will reflect on these phenomena, many of them caused by social issues", she stated.
She made it known, on the other hand, that since the movement's foundation, thousands of women have trained in pastry, cooking, cutting and sewing, agriculture, among others.
Promaica was founded on August 23, 1990 in the Diocese of Benguela, by the then bishop Dom Óscar Braga. CRB/CF/DOJ
