Caxito - The commander of the South African Air Force, Lieutenant General Wiseman Simo Mbambo, on Wednesday, paid tribute at the Santa Fe farm, Dembos municipality, Bengo province, to the soldiers of the African National Congress (ANC) who fell in this locality in 1987.
After laying a wreath at one of the graves of former ANC soldiers, the general officer stressed that history is still alive and rejuvenated.
'It has been 35 years since the South African troops left this part of Angolan territory, but history is still alive and rejuvenated,' he stressed, stressing that the South African Government will never forget the brave fighters who gave their lives for the well-being of the nation, fighting against the apartheid regime.
He said he was in Angola to strengthen bilateral relations and for the purpose of visiting the former military base of the troops of the African National Congress (ANC).
In 2018, the South African Government announced its intention to work with the Angolan Government on the construction of a memorial and some social infrastructure for local communities, in recognition of the affection and solidarity provided to their compatriots.
In the municipality of Dembos, located about 180 kilometers north of the city of Caxito, capital of Bengo province, the commander was accompanied by the deputy provincial governor of Bengo for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, José Francisco Bartolomeu Pedro. FS/IF/DOJ
