Lubango – At least 10 people died after being strapped in a burning car on Friday, as a result of a collision between a Toyota Hiace taxi car and a goods truck in Toco locality, outskirts of Lubango city, central Huíla province.
The victims of the disaster were all occupants of the taxi car, which also resulted in seven seriously injured, it also caused the total loss of the two vehicles, which were consumed by fire.
The collision occurred at 10:30 am on Estrada Nacional 280, following an unsuccessful overtaking by the truck, which ended up ramming the taxi, which then caught fire, without the passengers having time to get out, except for the driver who survived.
The information was disclosed to ANGOP by the local National Police spokesperson, chief inspector, José Nongava, stating that everything happened, when the truck coming from Benguela in oncoming traffic, collided with the passenger vehicle.
He declared that the collision caused a fire, causing the immediate death of the nine citizens and serious injuries to seven other passengers, aged between one and 48 years old.
The injured, according to the Police spokesperson, were rescued and taken to the Lubango Central Hospital “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”, where they received medical assistance, while the burnt bodies went to the morgue of the same health unit.
This is the second accident causing a considerable number of victims in Lubango city, on the same road, following the one that occurred four days ago, in which seven people died and 11 injured. MS/MS/AMP
