Cuito – At least five people died Saturday in Cunhinga municipality, central Bié Province, after setting off an anti-tank mine, ANGOP has learnt.
The victims, three men and two women, aged between 12 and 56, were travelling on a three-wheeled motorbike and died at the scene.
Speaking to ANGOP, the provincial representative of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), Ismael Brito, said this was the first case of people being killed by mines this year in the province.
In 2023, 10 people lost their lives and another eight were injured as a result of seven accidents involving mines and other unexploded ordnance.
