Cuvango – A 31-year-old gold prospector died and five others injured, this Sunday, after a collapse in an illegal mine in the municipality of Cuvango, southern Huila Province.
The municipal commander of the National Police in Cuvango, Superintendent Manuel António Correia, clarified, this Monday, that the case occurred in the Manengo sector, Macova, in an illegal Gold mine that is 60 kilometers off the municipal headquarters.
The event, the first registered at the area, happened when the miners extracted gold, at 7 pm, in a safeless hole, with a lot of water, a situation that ended up killing the supposed manager.
The Cuvango hospital's clinical director, Inocência Ndala, said that the health unit received five patients at 10pm on Saturday, transferred from the health center in the Manengo sector, as a result of a landslide.
“The patients were stable, they arrived with minor injuries, and all procedures such as, X-rays and dressings had been carried out before the discharge that happened the day after,” he said.
The 31-year-old individual, who died at the place, came from the municipality of Matala.
Currently, Cuvango has no official companies exploring gold, but there are two licensees that are in the resource mobilization phase.
