Lobito – A 38-year man was arrested Sunday by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Benguela province for desecration and sexual abuse of a female corpse, the SIC spokesperson chief inspector Francisco Vieira said Tuesday.
According to the SIC spokesperson, sufficient evidence has been found against the man and despite not confessing the crime, he will be submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
"In view of the facts, various steps were taken and forensic work was carried out, which confirmed that the detainee was the alleged perpetrator of the crime, and his arrest was carried out under the respective warrant," the police officer said.
According to the officer, the reasons that led the young man to carry out this "unusual action" are not yet known, but it has been established that he was the brother-in-law of the deceased, aged 22.
The case of necrophilia took place on August 18, 2023.
José Januário, director of the cemetery, confirmed to the press that vandalism continues to increase and that there are no alternatives to stop it.
"From January 2024 to the present day, there have been more than 30 grave violations, with the aim of stealing bronze," he explained, underlining that the actions are mostly carried out by underage youths.
Last year, the Catumbela Municipal Administration began work to raise the fence at the back, which used to be the main access for the criminals.
