Luanda - The Council of Christian Churches of Angola (CICA) intends to draw up an ecumenical agenda with a view to retrieving moral and civic values in order to strengthen families, said Tuesday the organisation's secretary general, Reverend Deolinda Teca.
Speaking at the first National Ecumenical Conference on retrieving moral and civic values, she said that these principles should be raised within families so that they can be implemented in society.
The reverend recognised that this is a great challenge for the church, despite being a moral reserve that has been fulfilling its role through biblical teachings.
The conference, organised as part of the Luanda Biennale, aimed, among other things, to analyse the contribution of christians and civil society on the principles to be adopted to rescue moral, civic and religious values, as well as to reflect on the behaviour of christians in the face of the present and future challenges, in order to build a stable society where transparency and social justice prevail.
For Reverend Luís Nguimbi, who is the President of the Angolan Christian Forum (FCA), the family will always be the hierarchical top of humanity and that's why the state must take clearer action to defend it.
On his turn, the leader of the West Angola Annual Conference of the Methodist Church, Bishop Gaspar João Domingos, said that Christian values should be taught from birth and then reinforced by other organisations that also govern the principles that should guide society.
He said that dialogue between generations is fundamental to preserving ties and improving methods of passing on the legacy.
The director of the National Institute of Religious Affairs (INAR), Reverend Adilson de Almeida, said that the Luanda Biennale is an opportunity to reflect on the need to stabilise societies, given the various conflicts raging around the world.
To him, it will be a point for reflection and the development of a strategy that contributes to the pacification of the world, especially on the African continent.
