Ondjiva - The representative of the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA) in the southern province of Cunene, João Gimbi, Wednesday encouraged the families to cultivate the spirit of solidarity and love for others, especially during this festive season.
Speaking to ANGOP, regarding the International Day of Human Solidarity, to be celebrated on December 20th, he said that the upcoming festive season (Christmas and New Year) is a good opportunity for families to make small gestures of solidarity.
The reverend highlighted the importance of solidarity for creating a fairer society in which people care about each other and work together to overcome life's difficulties.
He revealed that CICA, within the scope of its social actions, has promoted donations of basic necessities such as non-perishable food and used clothing, to the most needy families in the province, with a view to minimizing their difficulties.
João Gimbi urged families to embrace exemplary behaviour in this transition phase from 2024 to 2025, based on harmony, fraternity, love, a spirit of forgiveness and unity.
Implemented by the United Nations in 2005, December 20th is celebrated as the International Day of Human Solidarity.
The objective is to recognize the universal value of solidarity, and encourage member states to formulate and share poverty reduction strategies at a global level.
