Malanje - The rains that have hit Malanje province in recent days have again caused the landslide on Cabatuquila Hill, on National Road 230, on the route that connects the commune of Xandel, municipality of Quela, to the eastern provinces of the country.
The landslide caused the partial destruction of the reinforced concrete retaining walls built last year and tends to hinder the circulation of vehicles to the provinces of Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul and Moxico.
As a result, some engineering work is being carried out, with a view to stopping the advance of the debris and consequently the cutting of the road similar to what happened in August 2023.
Started in July this year, the works are in charge of the Chinese contractor PAN China and consist of the construction of a new retain wall.
In order to check the progress of the contract, a delegation led by the Secretary of State for Public Works, Molares D'Abril, made up of technicians from the National Institute of Roads of Angola (INEA), visited the site on Monday.
The director of the Provincial Office of Infrastructure of Malanje, Jorge Manuel said that at this time works are essentially underway to correct the previous wall, to cope with the rains.
In turn, the civil person in charge of the works, Lopez Silva said that the new fence wall will have greater sustainability because it is a stone-based hawk work, without mass, in an extension of 500 meters.
He stressed that at this point the contract already has a physical execution of 55 percent and along with the resistance, it allows rainwater to pass through and stop the land in case of collapse. NC/PBC/DOJ
