Saurimo - One thousand 980 families are displaced from their homes, as a result of the heavy rains that have hit the province of Lunda Sul since last January, revealed today, Wednesday, the deputy provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Services, Tembo Salemba.
Speaking to ANGOP, the official said that there was an increase of 30 families, compared to the same previous period.
He said that the rains also caused the death of nine and injuries to five people, and the destruction of 806 homes as well.
Tembo Salemba stressed that the Civil Protection and Fire Services has been working with municipal administrations to support citizens affected by the rains with basic necessities, construction materials and land distribution for directed self-construction.
On the other hand, he informed that, during the period in reference, the Civil Protection and Fire Services recorded 153 small fires, 58 road accidents, with nine deaths and 87 injuries, 25 body rescues, 15 presumed drownings and five removals of falls from lampposts.
Tembo Salemba said that the fires caused the death of four people and material damage valued at 70 million 292 thousand Kwanzas. EM/JW/OHA/DOJ
