Cuito - The bishop of the Diocese of Cuito/Bié, Dom Vicente Sanombo, on Monday in the city of Cuito, called for exemplary conduct from families, especially in opening up to census takers, aiming for success in the General Population and Housing Census.
Speaking to local journalists, after a courtesy meeting he had with the governor of the province of Bié, Celeste Adolfo, he highlighted the importance that this process plays in the country, requesting the contribution of families in opening and providing correct data to census takers.
Dom Vicente Sanombo also highlighted that data will allow the government to implement public policies based on the reality of each community, in order to significantly improve the well-being of populations.
Taking place under the motto “Together we count for Angola”, the Census is organized by the Angolan Government, through the National Statistics Institute (INE), and began on the 19th of the current month and lasted thirty days.
For this process, Bié has 5093 field agents.
Angola carried out the last Population and Housing Census in 2014, in which the Province of Bié recorded 1.455,255 inhabitants.
The religious leader calls for more investment in the social sector.
Dom Vicente Sanombo advocated the need for the Bié provincial government to invest more in the social sector with the aim to improve more local population´s living conditions.
He emphasized that it is necessary to maintain focus on building more schools, health units, agriculture, infrastructure, among others.
Vicente Sanombo added that it is worrying and a priority to focus on reducing hunger and poverty that plague vulnerable families in this region, as well as the situation of children outside the education system, estimated at more than one hundred thousand.
On the other hand, he reiterated the contribution of the Catholic Church in resolving these and various social problems that afflict communities, as well as the strengthening of the partnership between the government and this religious institution.
