Ondjiva – The traditional authorities in the commune of Ombala yo Mungo, municipality of Ombadja, southern province of Cunene, on Tuesday praised the gains registered during Angola's almost 50 years of Independence.
After 500 years of Portuguese colonial rule, Angola achieved National Independence on Nov 11, 1975, proclaimed by President António Agostinho Neto.
Speaking to ANGOP, the traditional authorities stated that compared to the five centuries that Angola's colonization period lasted, in half a century the achievements obtained surpassed them in all domains.
By the way, the chieftain of the commune of Ombala yo Mungo, Benjamim Aludilo, said that despite the 27 years of civil war, the country has not stopped growing in the areas of health, education and other infrastructures with social impact.
He recalled that currently, the communes, municipalities and provinces are connected by paved and earthen roads, which allows the free movement of people and goods.
The chieftain of the town of Okaku, Yohanesha Ndapuka, emphasized that as a result of this gain, a health post and a primary school were built in his community, aiming to provide access to medical assistance and education for the population.
He asked for more investment in initial schools, to allow children to access primary education and continue their training and later become local public servants.
The King of Ombala yo Mungo, Mário Satypamba, said that the Angolan Executive's investments justify the achievements obtained in these years and reflect the improvement of the well-being of Angolans.
He recalled that Cunene is characterized by severe droughts, but as a result of the freedom experienced, among other gains, structuring projects to combat drought have emerged, such as the Cafu collection and pumping station, which is benefiting thousands of people and animals, as well as the ongoing dams in the Calucuve, Ndue and Cova do Leão.
Mário Satipamba highlighted that the Govt's priorities should also include improving roads to promote social and economic development, as well as investing in arts and crafts pavilions to encourage self-employment among young people.
For his part, the Communal administrator of Ombala yo Mungo, Justiniano Satona, stated that the Cafu canal, which crosses the commune, represents one of the biggest gains for the population.
He stated that the commune has 36 schools, 8 health units, a Unitel (Angola's largest mobile network) signal and paved road that connects Ombala yo Mungo/Ondjiva, within a radius of 68 km.
