Chicomba – A 27-year old woman and her daughter have been attacked and killed by an alligator in Cuvunje River, southern Huila Province, the spokeswoman of the local Civil Protection and Firefighters, sub-inspector Teresa Abel said.
The body of the woman has been recovered, while the child remains to be found, the spokeswoman said, adding that the two victims were attacked on January 3, however, the firefighters could only locate the woman's body two days later.
Witnesses said the woman was carrying water for consumption from the river with her daughter or her back, when she was suddenly attacked and dragged into the river by the alligator.
Alligator attacks occur frequently in Chicomba municipality, where the authorities have recorded two attacks in 2023, both of the victims were women.
Chicomba is 220 kilometers north of Lubango city.EM/MS/DAN /AMP
