Saurimo – A group of national citizens attempted to invade, on Wednesday, in Saurimo, the premises of the Provincial Office of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland (ACVP) in Lunda-Sul province, to protest against their removal from the institution's remuneration system.
The information was provided to ANGOP on Thursday by the director of the ACVP Provincial Office, António Upite, who attributed the dissatisfaction to an alleged 'feeling of injustice' on the part of those involved due to the cessation of payment of their subsidies.
The person in charge indicated that the National Police 'was called in', to guarantee public order and tranquility and safeguard the physical integrity of the institution's employees.
He recalled that, in January of the current year, his Office removed 10,346 people from the ACVP remuneration system, due to the absence or “incompatibility” of requirements.
The removal resulted from the completion of the re-registration and proof of life process carried out for members across the country.
Before re-registration, the province of Lunda-Sul controlled 13,825 members, including former combatants, war disabled people and family members of fallen combatants.
With the proof of life completed, the province now has only 3,479 valid pension beneficiaries, including war disabled people of the first, second and third degree, orphans and companions. JW/IZ/DOJ
