Talatona – The secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Antónia Yaba, reaffirmed on Thursday (20), that Angola has been moving forward with the implementation of legislative and regulatory reforms to ensure the protection of workers and communities affected by business activities.
Antónia Yaba made this statement when speaking at the opening of the 4th edition of the International Forum on Business and Human Rights, held in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway.
She highlighted that Angola intends to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which will allow for greater control over the exploration of mineral and hydrocarbon resources.
“We currently have a National Coordination Committee, composed of representatives of the Angola Executive, the business sector and civil society, reinforcing our commitment to more transparent and accountable governance,” she stated.
She emphasized the importance of cooperation between all actors involved in protecting, respecting and redressing the fundamental workers rights.
According to her, the challenges in the Angolan context include ensuring fair wages, a dignified working environment, and access to professional training and information.
She stressed that the govt will continue to implement legislative and regulatory reforms to ensure the protection of workers and communities impacted by business activities.
The minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, stressed that the debate at the forum contributes to improving policies and legislation aimed at governance in the business sector.
In turn, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Angola, Bjørnar Hotvdt, reinforced his country's commitment to promoting good practices in the business sector, highlighting the importance of the partnership between both countries to strengthen transparency and sustainability in the extractive industries.
The event brought together members of the government, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the business sector and civil society.
The "Sustainability and human rights in the business sector", "Companies and the Aspect of Social Responsibility" and "Relationship with communities and Social Development" were the topics.
