Luanda - Angola plans to increase, by 2027, the Internet coverage rate to 18.9 million users, the head of the cybersecurity department of the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), Delvi da Silva announced on Thursday in Luanda.

According to the expert, who spoke on one of the panels of the "CEO Forum Angola 2024", the country currently has 8.9 million Internet users.

For the source, which addressed the topic “Cybersecurity in Angola:

Challenges, opportunities and strategies for a safe digital environment”, this is the result of investment in technological infrastructures that the country has been creating to reduce digital literacy in societies.

In relation to cybersecurity, the person in charge explained that the institute has held forums with a view to raising awareness among populations about prevention and care when using the Internet. "We have been working on sharing knowledge and today we can already notice, in institutions and society, greater control of personal data with appropriate mechanisms to prevent its loss and/or leakage", he highlighted. Regarding the areas that suffer most from these attempts, Delvi Silva said they are those directly linked to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), mainly electronic commerce.

In turn, the representative of the cybersecurity company Setic, assigned to the Ministry of Finance, Sandro Aveleira, said that the country records more than 200,000 attempted attacks every day.

To counteract the situation, the official highlighted that the country needs to increasingly train qualified and certified staff to respond to these threats.

"Fortunately, we have been able to provide a positive response to these attempted attacks, hence the need to continue investing in training and raising awareness among companies and populations about this phenomenon," he added.

The CEO Forum Angola is a business event, which brought together investors, political decision-makers and journalists, with the aim of supporting initiatives on topics related to leaders in the Angolan business sector.

Officials from public and private security companies, the banking sector and members of civil society participated in the forum. LIN/MCN/TED/DOJ
