Luanda - An Angolan multisectoral delegation has been participating, since this Monday, Oct 14, in Geneva (Switzerland), in the 75th session of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees which is taking place until Oct 18th.
This fact was made official in a press release from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations Office in Geneva (Switzerland), to which ANGOP had access.
The delegation, made up of experts from the Ministries of the Interior and of Justice and Human Rights, is led by Ambassador Margarida Izata, permanent representative of Angola to the aforementioned Office.
Angola will intervene on Tuesday in the general debate on "general issues, including statelessness".
The United Nations High Commissioner for refugees, Filippo Grandi, when speaking at the opening, encouraged Member States to work continuously on the implementation of the more than 2000 commitments made, in a context in which financing for humanitarian issues has become unpredictable and the stay of displaced people in reception areas has become increasingly prolonged.
ExCom meets annually in Geneva to review the Organization's activity, including to review and approve the Agency's programs and budget to ensure international protection and to discuss a range of other issues linked to UNHCR and intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.
The Executive Committee (ExCom) of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is the subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly that came into operation on January 1, 1959.
