Geneva - Angola is attending the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) 2022 at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva (Switzerland).
Angolan delegation to the event, going from 30 May to 4 June, is led by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies (MINTTICS), Mário Augusto de Oliveira, who has been in the venue since Sunday.
Experts from MINTTICS and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) are also integrating the Angolan delegation to WSIS.
The Angolan delegation to the WSIS 2022 forum also includes diplomats from the permanent mission: the permanent representative of Angola at the United Nations offices in Geneva, ambassador Margarida Izata and experts related to the matter.
The event takes place in physical format, under the theme "ICT for well-being, inclusion and resilience: WSIS cooperation to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)".
The forum will provide the Angolan delegation with structured opportunities to interact, learn and participate in discussions and consultations with various interested parties on the implementation of the WSIS programme.
Angola will intervene during the high-level political sessions scheduled for 31 May - 2 June period.
The WSIS 2021 Edition, held in online, recommended the peers, the presentation of the new strategy to ensure that the rural population, almost half of the world's population, is not left behind.
While the world should intensify efforts to boost the economy, reduce inequalities and tackle the climate crisis.
