Addis Ababa - Angola and UNESCO expressed Thursday interest in activating the preparation cycle of the third edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace in Africa –Biennial of Luanda.
This was discussed during an audience the Ambassador of Angola to Ethiopia, Djibouti and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Francisco José da Cruz, granted to the new Director of the UNESCO Liaison Office at the continental organization, Rita Bissoonauth.
Rita Bissoonauth said UNESCO expects that the III Biennial of Luanda will have Education as one of its main themes, an important pillar for the development of humanity.
The Luanda Biennial, scheduled every two years, aims to promote, in a permanent and dynamic way, the culture of peace that contributes to the strengthening of national unity and implies an unequivocal, individual and collective repudiation of the divisions and violence that affects, with serious political, economic and social consequences, many countries in Africa, particularly in the Great Lakes Region, calling into question the strategic objective of silencing the weapons on the continent.
In partnership with the AU and UNESCO, Angola held the Luanda Biennial in September 2019 and October 2021 to strengthen the Pan-African movement and the culture of peace and non-violence, fundamentally through the establishment of a multilateral alliance between governments, civil society, the artistic and scientific community, the private sector, and international organizations.
