Luanda - Angola tops the list of states that suffer the most cyber attacks in the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP), with more than 60 percent of the cases, the information security governance and risk management analyst Gedeon Dizengo said Friday in Luanda.
Addressing the conference on ‘The challenges of cyber security in Angola,’ the official, who cited the 2023 and early 2024 report by the international cyber security company Kaspersky, said the fragility of the human and technological resources of some public and private institutions in the country has contributed to this situation.
‘Angola, being a country that is taking its first steps in terms of cyber maturity, leads the list, with Africa being the continent that suffered the most cyber attacks in the third quarter of this year, with an average of 3,370 cases per week,’ Dizengo said.
Hecdiantro Mena, the national director of cyber security and digital service policies of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, emphasized that data protection continues to be a challenge for the country, having defended the need for the engagement of all sectors and greater investment to protect the country from this evil.
He also stressed that activities of this kind could help to minimize the problems related to cyber attacks in the country, through the exchange of experience, highlighting the awareness and education of the population and institutions about cyber security as one of the major challenges.
‘The lack of knowledge and safe practices in the use of technology among the population and companies contributes to the vulnerability of the attacks we have seen,’ he added.
The conference was attended by government bodies, businesspeople linked to the telecommunications sector, among other guests.MEL/MCN/DAN/AMP
