Luanda - Angola's National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has requested support for the UNESCO Africa priority programme 2022-2029, the Permanent Secretary of the Angolan National Commission for UNESCO Alexandre Costa told ANGOP on Wednesday.
The request was made during the 10th Inter-Regional Meeting of UNESCO National Commissions, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
The Operational Strategy for UNESCO's Africa Priority 2022-2029 reflects the aspirations of the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the United Nations' Agenda 2030.
Alexandre Costa said the request was made in view of the holding of the Africa National Commissions meeting to be held in Luanda in July 2024.
The UNESCO meeting, which serves as an instrument of consultation between the National Commissions, discussed Education for Peace and Sustainable Development, Artificial Intelligence, the power of Culture and Art and mechanisms capable of producing significant changes in society.
The National Commissions of more than 50 countries discussed on the Draft Programme and Budget for the period 2023-2029, which includes the Regional Meeting of Africa National Commissions for UNESCO to take place in 202, analysed and created proposals to strengthen relationship between the National Commissions and Regional Offices.
Alexandre Costa was also involved in working meetings with the National Commissions of Canada, France, Germany, Turkey, Portugal and Cabo Verde to analyse the best forms of cooperation in view of the event to be held in Luanda.
Costa also met with the National Commissions Monitoring Unit and the Directorate responsible for the Participation Programmes to discuss about the six projects approved namely, (three in education, two in culture and one in science), which have received positive feedback.
In the next two years, Angola will be able to submit seven more projects that can be approved. ML/ART/AMP
