Luanda - Angola is hosting on 25 and 26 May this year, in Luanda, the first International Women's Forum for Peace and Democracy, aiming to combine efforts to improve the performance of women in all spheres of society.
The event, under the motto “Technological Innovation as a tool of outreach for food security and combating drought in Africa”, focuses on women's struggle for equality, emancipation and development for peace and democracy.
The event is part of the Luanda Biennial – Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, an initiative of the Angolan Government, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the African Union.
The Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas, said at a press conference that the forum aims to reaffirm and strengthen political commitment, promote discussion and debate on the situation of gender equality on the African continent.
Nuno Caldas said that the event will serve as a platform for reflection and the construction of synergies and promotion of initiatives of young women, economic empowerment, as well as disseminate national achievements on women's rights, their political and social participation, the strengthening of policies that meet the plans and needs of women on the African continent.
He added that the opening act will have 600 people and during the activities it is expected the participation of 100 individuals.
The meeting will feature five thematic panels: The challenges of globalization in the process of gender empowerment, technological innovation and education to achieve gender equality, formalization as a mechanism for social and financial inclusion, Challenges of food security and climate change on the African continent and the role of women in the consolidation of peace and preservation of conflicts.
The event will target women leaders of African regional organizations, Women Leaders, heads of government and members of the PALOP, CPLP and OEACP, International and National Organizations, Representatives of Diplomatic Missions, representatives and entities of the public sector, public and private companies and private sector entities.
