Luanda - The last farewell to the Angolan musician Gelson Caio Manuel Mendes, or simply “Nagrelha dos Lambas” as known, was marked Tuesday by acts of vandalism to public and private property, which took place on Deolinda Rodrigues Avenue, in Luanda.
A vast crowd of various social strata showed up at Cidadela Stadium in Luanda to pay their last respects to the musician, before the body had been taken to Santa Ana Cemetery, also in Luanda.
However, on their way to the burial site, the large concentration of people started creating a mayhem, which forced the police to disperse the crowd who attempted to prevent the body from entering the cemetery.
Among the damaged properties, the crowd allegedly destroyed cars, burned motorcycles, robbed stores.
More than 800 police officers had been mobilised to ensure the safety and protect the population.
Nagrelha dos Lambas, aged 36, died in Luanda victim of illness.
The emblematic singer was the author of several successful songs such as "Não me Tarraxa Assim", "Wamona", "Katronga Violenta", "Dizumba Grande", "Banzelo", "Toque do Nana", "Comboio", "Provou e Gostou ", among other musical themes
