Caxito – One hundred and five people lost their lives and 641 others were injured, in the province of Bengo, in 2023, as a result of 331 road accidents recorded by the National Police in the region.
Compared to the previous year, there was a decrease of 16 cases in the number of accidents, an increase in the number of deaths (20 more) and injuries (51 more), according to the police balance sheet of the province's operational activity for the year of 2023.
The delegate of the Interior and provincial commander of the National Police in Bengo, commissioner Delfim Kalulu Inácio said that these figures should lead citizens to reflect about the non-observance of the rules and codes, which have caused the loss of human lives and the mutilation of so many others who could make their contribution to the development of the province.
The Civil Protection and Fire Service recorded 357 occurrences (+159) compared to the previous year, with emphasis on 123 fires (+57) and 34 drownings (+1), with the main incidence being the Dande River.
As a result of the rains that hit the province, 1,470 homes were affected (+933), 670 of which were flooded (+102) and 800 damaged (+123), causing one death and seven injuries.
The municipality of Dande was the most affected, with approximately 716 families affected (+241).
In 2023, the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) checked 1,218 foreign citizens of different nationality (+92) compared to the previous year.
The EMS also registered 2,925 applications for passports, an increase of 1,790 compared to the previous year. CJ/IF/DOJ
