Mbanza Kongo – At least 67 people have died and 949 injured as a result of 736 road accidents that took place in Angola’s northern Zaire province from January to December 2023, ANGOPP learnt on Wednesday.
According to the Consultative Council of the Zaire Provincial Command of the National Police, there has been an increase of 167 road accidents compared to 2022, whose main causes were recklessness, lack of knowledge and disrespect for the Highway Code, especially on the part of motorbike taxi drivers.
Participants of the Consultative Council concluded that other factors behind road accidents are the consumption of alcohol by drivers, overcrowding and speeding, and the lack of horizontal and vertical road signs.
