Caxito – At least 53 people have died as a result of 253 road accidents recorded in Bengo province from January to October this year, the spokesman of the local National Police, Superintendent Paulo Miranda de Sousa said Friday.
The accidents caused injuries to 331 people and material damage valued at 89.1 million Kwanzas.
At least 82 hit-and-run accidents were recorded during this period, which caused 15 deaths and 89 injuries topping the list of road accidents in Bengo.
The Police spokesman pointed to the poor technical condition of the roads, speeding, lack of road lighting, as well as the bad technical condition of some vehicles as the main causes of road accidents in the province.
A total of 331 road accidents were recorded last year in the region, causing 105 deaths and 641 injured. CJ/PA/AMP
