SOYO - Sanitary authorities of the municipality of Soyo recommended, on Thursday, the local population to observe the prevention measures against the viral conjunctivitis that plagues, about seven days ago, this locality of the Angolan northern province of Zaire.
Viral conjunctivitis is an acute conjunctiva infection, highly contagious, usually caused by an adenovirus.
Speaking to ANGOP, the head of public health section of the Soyo Municipal Directorate, Rosaria José, said that symptoms of conjunctivitis include eye pain, irritation, photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light) and aqueous secretion.
He explained that while the disease is easy to solve, with the washing of the eyes with soap and water, the serious cases require treatment and medical follow-up.
He recommended to citizens that they have symptoms of conjunctivitis to go to sanitary units, so as to benefit from better assistance.
