Mbanza Kongo – The hemotherapy service at the Zaire Provincial Hospital (HPZ), on Saturday in Mbanza Kongo received a donation of 150 bags of blood by members of the local Command of the National Police.
The humanitarian action is part of the program of activities commemorating the 49th anniversary of the National Police, marked on February 28th.
Speaking to the press, after the act, the provincial commander of the Angolan Border Police (PGFA) in the region, deputy commissioner Agostinho Muazunga, said that the corporation responded to a social and noble cause.
According to him, 150 police officers were mobilized to donate blood to patients who need this product to survive.
“The National Police, regardless of its functions, fight for social cause”, he said, in statements to the press.
The deputy head of the Hemotherapy section at HPZ, Francisco Wenda, praised the National Police's initiative, highlighting that the philanthropic action will minimize the need for blood in this health unit.
He indicated that, with this action, the blood bank's stock increases to 215 bags and will serve patients over the next 10 days.
Francisco Wenda, who is also a biomedical doctor said that, every day, the Hospital carries out an average of 15 blood transfusions, with paediatrics, maternity and orthopaedics being the areas that most need it.
The blood bank in the Hemotherapy section of the largest public health unit in Zaire has an installed capacity of 250 bags.
With an inpatient capacity of 200 beds, the Zaire Provincial Hospital, also known as “Maria Eugénia Neto”, provides general medicine, gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatrics, maternity, ophthalmology, surgery, laboratory, hemotherapy, orthopaedics, traumatology and physiotherapy services.
