Cuito – In the scope of the 11th surgical campaign, 203 women with obstetric fistula problems may be operated on at the Dr Walter Strangway Hospital, located in the city of Cuito, central Bié Province.
The information was given by the hospital's nursing director, Elizeth Vicente, at the time of the first day of surgeries, during which 27 patients have already been operated on.
She said that 35 health professionals are involved in the campaign, which closes on the 31st of this month.
In addition to Bié, there are also patients from other regions of the country.
Up to the 10th obstetric fistula surgery campaign, 1000 women had already been operated on for the disease, which is caused by injuries caused by prolonged and obstructed labour, without access to timely and high-quality medical treatment.
The Dr Walter Strangway Provincial Hospital has more than 20 specialised services, including gynaecology and obstetrics, paediatrics, neonatology, surgery, nephrology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, stomatology and otorhinolaryngology, among others.
