Luena – At least four of the five victims of the accident between a Benguela Railway (CFB) train and a bus carrying teachers from the Moxico Higher Polytechnic Institute are in a stable condition.
These are four university professors from Cuba who work at the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Moxico (ISP-Moxico) and a driver that on Tuesday had an accident on the outskirts of Luena. The accident happened when their bus collided with a train that was doing maintenance work on the line.
The clinical director of the Moxico General Hospital, Georgina Muhongo, said that only one of the victims has a reserved prognosis, after having undergone two operations. One of the operations was orthopedic to correct fractures in the lower limbs, as well as an exploratory laparotomy to identify possible lung injuries.
Another Cuban citizen will also undergo surgery to fix bone problems in the operating room later on Wednesday.
The provincial governor, Ernesto Muangala, was happy with how the patients were doing. He said that the hospital had a specialist to help the victims.
