Luanda - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday made available 12.2 million US dollars to combat malaria and Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), as part of the signing of the first Development Objectives Agreement (DOAG).
The agreement signed by USAID's Assistant Administrator for Africa, Monde Muyangwa, and the Angolan Minister of Planning, Víctor Hugo Guilherme, also aims to accelerate the development of human capital, improving results in health and education, with a focus on Angolans at risk.
Similarly, the DOAG aims to improve the business environment for economic diversification by strengthening governance and increasing trade and investment, as well as supporting improved livelihoods and protecting natural resources.
Through this protocol, USAID made official its support for the National Development Plan (PDN), approved by the Angolan government with the aim to facilitate a transformative partnership that aligns with this program.
Speaking at the event, USAID's Africa assistant administrator said the institution will continue to collaborate with the government to guarantee the implementation of programs for the country's development.
The USAID official spoke of the importance of this day for the US and Angola, adding that USAID will collaborate with the Angolan government in this new partnership, within the framework of the PDN 2024-2027, allowing it to capitalize on the relationship between the two nations.
The Angolan minister on his turn said the resources are an important contribution for the materialization of the two pillars that underpin the PDN, namely the development of human capital and the promotion of food security.
To the government official, in addition to ordinary resources, it is up to the Ministry of Planning, together with international development partners, to mobilize other resources to support the implementation of the programs and projects established by the PDN.
“Angola is living through a crucial moment in its social and economic history. We are implementing a new paradigm, in which everyone's efforts are directed towards realizing the objectives set by the PDN 2023-2027, which includes the public and private sectors, academy players, as well as international partners”, the minister said.
