Benguela - The Benguela General Hospital (HGB) will make available, in the coming days, five beds to allow the hospitalization and treatment of drug addicts, ANGOP learned on Sunday.
The main health unit in the province of Benguela, the hospital in question has a capacity of 670 beds. In recent years, it has been undergoing a restructuring to improve the quality of service to users.
The information is from the director of the HGB, Divane Marcolino, noting that the creation of a space for internment and treatment of drug addicts comes as a response to a challenge from the National Institute for the Fight Against Drugs (INALUD), and should engage three Cuban specialists.
And the challenge was launched during the presentation of the new representative of INALUD, in the province of Benguela, Wladimir Dias, replacing Engrácia Rodrigues, who was in office for more than ten years.
'The challenge of joining the project to welcome drug addicts was accepted (...)', declared doctor Divane Marcolino.
To this end, it guarantees at least five beds for the temporary hospitalization of these patients, for rapid detoxification in a minimum period of 21 days.
He also made it known that the management of the Benguela General Hospital shares the same vision as INALUD to save more lives and build a healthy society.
It is in this context that the hospital manager hopes that there will be more dissemination of this initiative that aims to recover chemical dependents of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
As there are many drug addicts outside the control of the health authorities, Divane Marcolino stresses that it is necessary to encourage the treatment of these patients, for their well-being and that of society.
Thanks
In turn, the national director of INALUD, Sucame André, praises the availability of the management of the Benguela General Hospital to provide hospital and outpatient treatment for drug addicts, for their social reintegration.
In his view, it is a great challenge, because hospitals have few rooms and limited staff for this project.
He also took the opportunity to thank the Provincial Health Office for providing conditions for the operation of the National Institute for the Fight against Drugs. JH/CRB/DOJ
